Zapp Band

Friday, August 15, 2014

Zapp (also known as the Zapp Band or Zapp and Roger) is a soul and funk band formed in 1978 by brothers Roger Troutman, Larry Troutman, Lester Troutman, Tony Troutman and Terry "Zapp" Troutman. Known for hits such as "More Bounce to the Ounce", "Dance Floor" and "Computer Love", the group was a partial source of inspiration to West Coast hip-hop and G-funk, which came out of the hand clapped-drum beat styled funk of Zapp's records, with Roger's use of the talk box becoming another reason for the group's impact and its success.

'56: A 1950's Rock & Roll Revue

'56: A 1950's Rock & Roll Revue

Saturday, August 23, 2014

’56 brings back to life one of the purest forms of American Roots music and lays it down with style. From blues-tinged, hip-shakin’ rockers like “Johnny B. Goode” and “Shake, Rattle & Roll” to the sultry, starlight ballads of “Fever” or “Love Me”, Bret Kaiser’s silky-smooth, powerful vocals make every female swoon and the fellas want to run out and race with their buddies for pinks! The twang of Tom’s Gretsch Falcon on tunes like “Sleepwalk” and “Honey Don’t” are reminiscent of Carl Perkins/Brian Setzer/Duane Eddy while Austin’s wing-tipped acrobatics on the stand-up bass have to be seen to be believed! ’56 offers all that and with Jeff laying down the beat on the drums, it’ll be a night to remember especially when you see Jeff and Austin duel it out on “Mystery Train.” – Unbelievable!

Put on your glad-rags on and grab your best gal or guy – ’56 is Rock & Roll that's here to stay and they’re gonna blow the roof off the joint!

Los Lobos

Los Lobos

Friday, September 12, 2014

If Los Lobos has learned one thing in nearly four decades together, it’s that playing by the rules is not for them. They tried it for a while, said no thanks, and they’ve been better for it ever since.

Their 1987 remake of Ritchie Valens’ classic “La Bamba” for the soundtrack of the same name earned the band a No. 1 smash on the Billboard charts, and the following year’s "La Pistola y El Corazón," which found the band revisiting its Mexican folk roots, was also highly regarded.

This all acoustic performance of traditional Tejano and Mariachi folk songs featured on that Grammy winning 1989 release of "La Pistola y El Corazon," will also feature a set of hits as well. This tour celebrates the band's 40th anniversary.

Sawyer Brown

Sawyer Brown

Friday, September 26, 2014

Those words end the first verse of the title track to Sawyer Brown’s new CD
“Travelin’ Band.” The life and times of a traveling band—if ever there were a band who
is well qualified to paint a picture of what it means to be a travelin’ band, it’s Sawyer
Brown. Founded in 1981, the band celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, having played
more than 4000 shows over the course of those years, logging mileage well into the seven
figures. And as the band clearly shows in its new CD, the wheels are still turning and an
ever-open road stretches out ahead.
